Bob's Decision

In April 2025, Robert “Bob” Easter made a decision that would change two lives forever... neither of them his own. With no personal connection to kidney disease and no one in his immediate circle in need of a transplant, Bob chose to become a living kidney donor purely out of compassion. It was an altruistic act, driven by a deep sense of purpose and empathy for those silently suffering while waiting for the call that a match had been found.

Before the transplant, kidney disease had not directly touched Bob’s life. Yet once he learned of the urgent need for donors and the stark reality faced by thousands waiting on transplant lists, he felt compelled to act. Donating his kidney was not just a physical gift, it was a statement. Bob’s selfless donation saved the life of someone he had never met. But the impact didn’t stop there. Through the kidney voucher system, his donation enabled a second life to be saved, amplifying the reach of his generosity.
The experience left Bob with an indescribable sense of fulfillment, one that words can only begin to express. The knowledge that his "spare" kidney gave someone else the chance to live a full, healthy life redefined what giving meant to him. Now, he’s eager to ensure that others understand the power and possibility of living donation. With support from the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, Bob hopes to share his story more widely through presentations, mentoring, and raising awareness. “People with kidney disease don’t have a choice,” he says. “But we do. And we can choose to save a life.”
To Bob, kidney health is fundamental—not just to survive, but to thrive. And he’s proof that one person’s choice, made with courage and compassion, can ripple out to transform lives far beyond their own.
