JOB DESCRIPTION: Medical Support - NKFI Kidney Camp

​

Position Overview:

The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois improves the health and well-being of people at risk for or affected by kidney disease through prevention, education and empowerment. Every summer, at Kidney Camp, children touched by kidney disease will get an escape from the ordinary. They will enjoy a good, old-fashioned camp experience, have fun, and find adventure! The majority of campers are affected by kidney disease, including patients on dialysis, and associated conditions.

We are searching for medical professionals to oversee camp and ensure campers abide by their treatment and Plan of Care throughout the camp week (July 10 – 16, 2022). Medical professional shifts are flexible and can be anywhere from one day to the full camp week.

A stipend will be provided. 

​

 
 

Responsibilities:

​

Medical professionals will be onsite and available 24/7 during the weeklong KidneyCamp program. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Thorough familiarization of camper’s condition, medical records, and treatment prior to camp week

  • Meet guardian(s) and confirm camper’s treatment during KidneyCamp check-in

  • Supervise accompanying nursing student(s) and outline responsibilities according to their scope of practice

  • Administer daily medications and any accompanying procedure(s) (sponge baths, injections, etc.)

  • Be able to independently provide peritoneal dialysis treatment

  • Perform daily wellness checks (sunscreen administration, water intake, blood pressure, weight, etc.)

  • Report any problems, physical findings or concerns to YMCA, NKFI, camper’s medical team and guardian(s)

  • Maintain updated and organized records of camper’s treatment, injury, or any additional procedures

  • Keep a hygienic and safe Nursing Station while adhering to YMCA regulations

  • Accompany camper(s) to hemodialysis, clinic, or hospital if necessary

  • Physical ability to respond to situation requiring first aid or emergency protocols (fire, evacuation, injury, etc.)


Qualifications:

  • •    Active ability to practice within the state of Illinois 
    •    Peritoneal dialysis experience required 
    •    Recent (within last 2 years) PALS, CPR, and ACLS course completion 
    •    Nephrology experience required, pediatric experience preferred 
    •    Background check required 
    •    Current driver’s license 
    •    Must embody a friendly and welcoming attitude – our campers are rock stars! 

    •    RN, APRN, NP, MD/DO, or PA preferred
