Spotlight on #TeamKidneyCHI marathon runner, Mannie Zubia

"We each have the opportunity to do something great in our lives. What's better than being able to save someone's life?"

Mannie donated a kidney to his mother in February 2016, after watching her struggle with kidney failure, emergency dialysis, and a long transplant waitlist. The experience not only gave his mother freedom from dialysis, but also inspired Mannie to live more intentionally, focusing on his health, fitness, family, and purpose.

Mannie also has a strong social media presence (Instagram @mannie.zubia) where he shares his journey as a kidney donor athlete. He posts training videos, race updates and empowering messages along the way. His content gives followers a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into endurance running while also encouraging other to challenge themselves and keep moving forward.

"Living with one kidney has made my life even better than before."

Now, Mannie is bringing that same passion & determination to #TeamKidneyCHI as he preps for the Chicago Marathon. Through every mile, he is helping raise awareness for kidney health, living donation, and the impact one person can have on another.

We're so excited to have Mannie on #TeamKidney & we can't wait to cheer him on at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 11, 2026!
