Rockford News First: Free kidney health screenings to be offered in Freeport, Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (Rockford News First) - Free kidney health screenings will be available in Freeport and Rockford for two days only.
The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois will have its KidneyMobile at the Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois in Freeport from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15.
On Wednesday, September 16, the screening vehicle will be at the Ken-Rock Community Center in Rockford from 2 to 6 p.m.
Anyone who wants to get checked for kidney disease, high blood pressure or diabetes is encouraged to go to the screening.
Appointments are not required, but participants can pre-register by clicking here.
Screenings look for markers of chronic kidney disease and should take around 45 minutes to complete.
“One in three American adults is at risk for kidney disease and our goal is to educate the community about the risks for kidney disease and detect it early so that people can manage the disease and slow its progression,” says Regina White, Senior KidneyMobile Manager.
Participants will have to complete urinalysis, blood glucose, blood pressure, and body mass index tests. Some may have to draw blood.
As part of the free screening, attendees can also talk privately with medical professionals about their results.
Both days of screenings will have free fresh produce provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.
