Faith Through the Storm: Prince’s Journey to a New Kidney

On February 3, 2022, Prince LaCarlous Jackson’s life took a dramatic turn. At the age of 39, he was diagnosed with kidney failure, an experience that would test his strength, faith, and resilience in unforeseen ways.

Living in Memphis during that time, Prince underwent dialysis three days a week, with each session lasting four grueling hours. The physical exhaustion was evident, but the emotional toll, loss of confidence, isolation, and broken promises from potential donors, had the most profound impact on him. Despite these challenges, Prince made a commitment to himself: stay faithful, fight forward, and never give up.

Even as treatment took its toll, he remained steadfast in his commitment. He continued to walk, work out, eat better, and hold onto his faith. “I kept waking up at 4:15 a.m. for dialysis,” he recalls, “tired, hurting, but determined.”

Then, something extraordinary happened. On April 17, 2025, his father’s birthday, Prince received a call from UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco. A potential kidney match had been found. Three days later, on Easter Sunday, another call came in: “Get here as fast as possible.” The kidney came from a 30-year-old man in Georgia who had tragically passed away while on life support.

That young man’s gift gave Prince a second chance at life. “I’ll never forget him,” Prince says, “and I often pray for his family.”

Today, Prince is still recovering, but his spirit is stronger than ever. “It feels like I was reborn,” he shared, “not just with a new kidney, but with a new heart and spirit.” “Even a small circle can hold a world of love,” he added. His message to others facing kidney disease is to “keep fasting, keep praying, and know that God does answer. Your breakthrough might be just around the corner.”
