JOB DESCRIPTION: Marketing & Communications Coordinator Contractor Role​

Position Description:
The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is seeking a proactive, experienced Marketing Coordinator to join our team on a contract basis, for 16 weeks. This role is ideal for a skilled communicator with 5+ years of nonprofit marketing experience, strong project management ability, and hands-on experience with digital marketing tools and content creation.

The Marketing Coordinator will lead and execute a wide range of marketing and communications activities during a key stretch of the year—including our annual Gift of Life Gala, year-end appeal, podcast/blog promotion, and holiday outreach—while keeping our voice consistent across channels.
Key Responsibilities:
Digital & Email Marketing

Manage social media content and scheduling via SocialPilot

Create and send weekly program/event emails and bi-weekly newsletters using Constant Contact
-
Make minor website updates and upload relevant blog content
Content Creation & Coordination
-
Update blog posts with embedded podcast episode players
-
Add new blog content with news, stories, and organizational updates
-
Collaborate with the development team on year-end appeal messaging and design
-
Coordinate production of the Foundation’s holiday card
Event Marketing Support

Oversee marketing design materials for the Gala, including:

Final slides
-
Digital program book
-
Table cards with QR code to the program book
-
Other collateral as requested

Finalize and print sponsor signage and agendas for key programs:

Interdisciplinary Nephrology Conference

Viviendo con Enfermedad Renal y Trasplante

Liaise with event photographers: send event details, manage shot lists, and follow up post-event as needed

Pack marketing collateral for and attend key programs and events, particularly the Gift of Life Gala
Media, Public Relations & Community Engagement

Seek out and manage media coverage for TeamKidney in the Chicago Marathon

Collaborate with the Leadership Team on communications and special initiatives

Liaise with contracted public relations firm on matters regarding the Gift of Life Gala
Qualifications:
-
5+ years of nonprofit marketing and communications experience
-
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
-
Proficiency with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact preferred)

Familiarity with social media tools (e.g., SocialPilot)

Experience coordinating graphic design projects (working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Canva)

Comfortable updating website content (Wix or similar CMS)

Exceptional project management and multitasking skills
-
Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally with leadership and development teams

Must be able to lift 35lbs
