JOB DESCRIPTION: Marketing & Communications Coordinator Contractor Role​

Position Description:

The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is seeking a proactive, experienced Marketing Coordinator to join our team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for a skilled communicator with 5+ years of nonprofit marketing experience, strong project management ability, and hands-on experience with digital marketing tools and content creation.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications, the Contract Marketing & Communications Coordinator plays a key role in executing the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois’ (NKFI) external communications strategy. The Coordinator is responsible for writing and developing a variety of print, email, and digital content that promote the mission of NKFI to its supporters, partners, and the wider community. Superior writing and editing skills and the abilities to work collaboratively across the agency and to proactively seek out compelling stories to share are necessary.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Director of Marketing & Communications in maintaining logo and brand integrity.

  • Create, coordinate, and edit marketing materials for programs and events to include sponsorship packets, flyers, banners, and more, utilizing Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Collaborate with programs and development departments to prepare for NKFI programs and events: write e-blasts; edit webpages; design, order, and organize signage and promotional items.

  • Develop and manage print deadlines.

  • Write and publish social media posts that highlight compelling stories associated with programs and special events, as consistent with the mission.

  • Coordinate media interest in special events and programs as appropriate with press releases, media pitches, and media alerts.

  • Oversee assembly and organization of signage and NKFI collateral during special events.

  • Assist in the creation of scripts and presentations for programs and events, ensuring they contain a consistent brand image and tone.

  • Manage relationships with event photographers.

  • Create post-event emails, social media, and blog posts.

  • Meet with Director of Marketing & Communication on a weekly basis.

  • Serve as a strong representative of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, its work, mission, programs and services.

  • Evening and weekend work required as needed, occasional travel for meetings as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of nonprofit marketing and communications experience

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Proficiency with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact preferred)

  • Familiarity with social media tools (e.g., SocialPilot)

  • Experience coordinating graphic design projects (working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Canva)

  • Comfortable updating website content (Wix or similar CMS)

  • Exceptional project management and multitasking skills

  • Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally with leadership and development teams

  • Must be able to lift 35lbs
