community awareness

The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois fights kidney disease on many fronts.

In addition to our large-scale educational, fundraising, and community outreach efforts we seek to establish partnerships with local neighborhood leaders in order to engage with patients, families, and at-risk populations close to home.

Through our digital Team Kidney platform we've also made it as simple and easy for supporters like you to organize your own community-building efforts on behalf of people touched by kidney disease.

Please explore the information below to learn more about current community awareness programs. Have an idea for a partnership or program of your own? Please contact us to discuss how we may work with you.

community health talks

Kidney Health for Life

The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is hosting a series of  Community Health Talks (CHT) to start the conversation and build on its statewide efforts to heighten public awareness of what kidney disease is. These virtual health talks will engage faith leaders, organization leaders and the general public in a concerted effort to educate the public on the impact of kidney disease in Black, Hispanic/Latino, and Asian populations in our community.

The CHTs are a key component of the NKFI’s Kidney Health For Life statewide campaign to enhance its presence in Black, Hispanic/Latino, and Asian populations that are adversely impacted by kidney disease. CHT participants will hear from patients living with kidney disease as well as a community nephrologist who will give an enlightening presentation on what kidney disease is, preventive information such as scheduling regular doctor visits, requesting a screening, and embracing healthy nutrition and lifestyle practices.

Want to host your own community health talk? Contact our Director of Marketing & Communications, Sara Jane Castro, at or 312-321-1500.
