Tipu Puri, MD

University of Chicago

I am a nephrologist at the University of Chicago. My academic interests center on improving awareness of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and preventing progression of CKD to kidney failure, particularly in those at higher risk for disease progression, through patient education, engagement, and activation. My goal is to improve the care and outcomes of patients with CKD by understanding issues that support or prevent patient engagement and the delivery of compassionate and effective healthcare. At the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC), I serve as Associate Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Operations. I have responsibility for providing direct physician oversight of clinical operations and collaborate closely with other senior physician and operational leaders to drive outcomes in safety, quality, and value in patient care. I am a Senior Scholar in the Bucksbaum Institute for Clinical Excellence and have been supported to improve doctor-patient communication in our CKD clinic. I have been a member and partner with the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the affiliate NKF of Illinois (NKFI) since 2004. I have served as Chair of the NKFI Professional Advisory Board, Chair of the NKFI Programs Committee, and am the current President of the Board of Directors for NKFI.
