Kidney Patient Services and Programs
Telephone Counseling and Referrals. Staff is available to answer questions and offer resources and support to patients and their families.
Patient Education Days. Renal professionals and patients help to plan educational seminars regarding issues ranging from chronic kidney disease to dialysis to transplantation. Programs are rotated across the state of Illinois between the Chicago, Central Illinois, Northern, and Southern Illinois areas. Panels and speakers focus on issues suggested by patient surveys and are related to kidney disease and other relevant topics.
NKFI Patient and Family Memberships. For a donation of $10.00, patient and family members can become a member of the NKFI with several benefits included. Patient members have the opportunity to choose one of the following gift items: a piece of medical alert jewelry, weekly pillbox, cookbook containing renal friendly recipes or a totebag. You'll also receive our bi-yearly newsletter and information on upcoming events.
Kidney Camp. Children with transplants or on dialysis can experience traditional summer camp activities like swimming, boating and horseback riding in an environment that still allows them to dialize and receive medications critical to maintaining their health.
The Complete Resource Guide on Chronic Kidney Disease. The NKFI created this resource guide for patients, families, and healthcare professionals to help increase access to information, understand terms and definitions as well as resources and services available for those affected by chronic kidney disease. The resource guide is available online for free or in print for $10 per copy.
The Complete Resource Guide on Support & Financial Services for Kidney Patients. The newest resource guide was created for kidney patients and their families with a special focus on support and financial services. This resource guide is available for purchase for $10 per copy.
Patient Newsletters. Newsletters are offered twice a year for dialysis patients, transplant recipients and pediatric patients and their families. Articles and information are tailored to the specific group and provide up-to-date information on treatments, medications and public assistance programs.
U.S. Transplant Games. The NKFI helps coordinate and recruit the members of Team Illinois. This group of amateur athletes, who are also transplant recipients, represent the state of Illinois in the U.S. Transplant Games held every other summer. This event is the largest gathering of transplant recipients in the world. For more information, please go to www.team-illinois.org.
