Local Golfers Compete for Pebble Beach Invite While Fighting Kidney Disease on the Fairway
The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois will hold its first NKF Golf Classic at Willow Crest Golf Club in Oak Brook, Illinois on Wednesday, September 9. The tournament, formerly known as the Kidney Care Classic, is now one in a series of more than 30 amateur golf tournaments across the country.
This year’s Golf Classic will also feature special guest Rob Johnson from CBS 2 Chicago. In an effort to raise more funds and drive the competition, Johnson will participate in the Rob Johnson Challenge. Golfers will have the opportunity play against Rob and beat his shot for entry into a raffle.
The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois’s Golf Classic is the only charity golf tournament that invites the top six local finishing teams to compete at the Pebble Beach Resorts in January 2016.
More than 26 million American adults have kidney disease, and most don’t know it. If left untreated, kidney disease can lead to kidney failure, causing those affected to rely on dialysis or a transplant to survive. All funds and awareness raised will benefit the leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease for hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals, millions of patients and their families, and tens of millions of Americans at risk.
Amateur golfers can participate in the Golf Classic as part of a four-person team. The scramble tournament is open to all golfers and includes two divisions: Handicap Index and Gross. The Handicap Index Division is comprised of golfers whose combined USGA Handicap Index is 42.0 or more, with only one golfer on each team having a USGA Handicap Index of 8.0 or less. Gross Division golfers do not require handicap indexes.
The Golf Classic is made possible through the support of volunteers, committee members and sponsors. The tournament will be presented by Associates in Nephrology and have dinner provided by Advocate Christ Medical Center. Both organizations have continuously supported the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois’ events and programs throughout the years.
The Golf Classic is also made possible by national corporate partner, IAA/One Car One Difference, and national promotional partners including PING, The Greg Norman Collection, Michelob Ultra and Tiffany & Co.
