Dialysis is a medical treatment for people who have lost their kidney function. Dialysis cleanses the body of waste and excess fluids by filtering the blood through a filter on a machine or through your own peritoneal membrane. Dialysis, also called renal replacement therapy, replaces some of the functions that the kidneys can no longer do. There are two kinds of dialysis: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
