Secondary Hyperparathyroidism occurs when your kidneys fail, and the amount of calcium and phosphorus in your blood becomes out of balance. This imbalance causes your parathyroid glands to produce too much parathyroid hormone (PTH) and results in a condition called secondary hyperparathyroidism or high PTH.
