CHAPTER 2:Living with Chronic Kidney Disease
Topic 32Protein
Protein is the chemical building block from which our cells, organs, and tissues like muscle are made. Proteins also serve double-duty as hormones, enzymes and antibodies, which help our bodies fight off invading germs. If abnormal amounts of protein are found in the urine, it may be an early sign of chronic kidney disease.
