Nephrotic syndrome results from damage to the kidneys' glomeruli. Glomeruli are tiny blood vessels that filter waste and excess water from the blood and send them to the bladder as urine. Nephrotic syndrome includes symptoms that suggest kidney damage, such as high levels of protein in the urine, lack of protein in the blood and high blood cholesterol. Nephrotic syndrome may also cause an increase of fat in your blood.
