Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas and helps the body use glucose for energy. Diabetes occurs when the body cannot make enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it has. Insulin is then taken by injection or through the use of an insulin pump. Diabetes is one of the main causes of kidney disease.
